If you didn’t notice, I forgot to update last night. Yesterday (and today) were very full days. Here is a recap:

Yesterday:

We left Durango, CO and drove to Mesa Verde National Park. This is the land of the Pueblo Indians and their cliff dwellings dated back to ~AD1200. It always fascinates me how cultures without any modern tools managed to haul material, fashion archaic tools and construct significant structures. Some of the homes and structures in these cliffs were 4 stories tall.

The drive into and out of the park is harrowing. Huge swings in altitude and very steep drop offs with no guard rails. It was 20 miles one way – so, that is 40 miles of white-knuckle driving. We made it though. The driver is the only one who seemed to notice…

After leaving Mesa Verde, we drove to Moab, UT and had a nice dinner and crashed.

Today:

High adventure. We went for a jet boat tour on the Colorado River through the steep canyon walls that line the river. The boat went through rapids and would occasionally do a flat spin for the pure fun of it. We all got drenched and were awed by the scenery.

The day wasn’t over. We then headed up to the top of the mesa to the Arches National Park. This park is full of geological oddities in the way of natural arches and what appear to be rocks balanced on the top of other rocks. We hiked a few miles all together seeing the sites. It is a park worth visiting.

Moab has been a surprise. It is not cosmopolitan at all, but there is so much to do here. Most of it high adventure type of stuff. I highly recommend checking it out.

I’m still having issues with posting pictures. I’ll do it as soon as I can find a non price-gouging electronics store to fix my equipment problems.

Having fun. See everyone soon.
